Statewide, Sherwood affiliates recognized for recycling efforts
LITTLE ROCK (April 8, 2013) – Keep Arkansas Beautiful and Keep Sherwood Beautiful have been recognized in the 2012 Nestlé® Pure Life® Recycling Awards.
Arkansas led the nation in the pounds per capital of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) material recycled during 2012 Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup™. Sherwood recycled the most PET material of any community in Arkansas.
“We are proud of Arkansans in general and of Keep Sherwood Beautiful in particular for stepping up their recycling efforts,” said Robert Phelps, director of Keep Arkansas Beautiful. “Sustainable waste management improves the environmental quality of life in Arkansas communities.”
Nearly 75 tons of PET was recycled at Great American Cleanup in Arkansas events in 2012.
About the Great American Cleanup
Nationally, the Great American Cleanup involved an estimated 4 million people volunteering more than 5 million hours to clean, beautify and improve 16,500 communities during more than 30,000 events from coast to coast. Activities will include beautifying parks and recreation areas, collecting recyclables, picking up litter, planting trees and flowers, and conducting educational programs and litter-free events. Around 15,000 people will volunteer in the Great American Cleanup in Arkansas.
