More than one hundred local events already scheduled
LITTLE ROCK (Sept. 11, 2015) – Nearly every Saturday through the end of October, Arkansans can volunteer at a local Great Arkansas Cleanup (GAC) in communities across the state. Multiple local events have been scheduled in many towns statewide.
“With events scheduled nearly every week and more being added every day, Arkansans have plenty of opportunities to volunteer for efforts that will improve the environmental quality of The Natural State,” said Liz Philpott, GAC statewide coordinator and volunteer program manager for the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission (KAB).
Those who would like to organize a litter-pickup event in their community or to volunteer with a local event can visit KeepArkansasBeautiful.com, email email@example.com or call 888-742-8701 toll-free for more information.
The GAC is a statewide initiative promoted each fall by KAB. Thousands of Arkansans volunteer to pick up litter along the state’s roadways and waterways, parks and public areas during this annual event.
Once a community or group signs on to host a Great Arkansas Cleanup event, KAB will help organize and publicize the effort. KAB will equip local volunteers with cleanup materials and supplies, such as trash bags, gloves, T-shirts and safety vests.
“Arkansas utilizes its citizen volunteers to help maintain the cleanliness of the state’s roadways, parks and shorelines,” said Robert Phelps, executive director of KAB. “Everyone is encouraged to help keep our state clean and green by joining the KAB Clean and Green Team during the Great Arkansas Cleanup.”
Last year’s GAC featured 132 local events across the state involving nearly 16,000 Arkansans who collected more than194,000 pounds of litter and waste from roughly 1,700 miles of roadways and waterways.
