Youth Poster Contest: Deadline March 30

Youth Poster Contest open to grades K – 5

Students in Arkansas asked to create art promoting community improvement

Teachers and youth leaders in Arkansas are invited to submit student entries to Keep Arkansas Beautiful’s (KAB) Great American Cleanup Youth Poster contest. The contest is open to grades K – 5; entries are due March 30.

Communities all around the state are planning their Great American Cleanup events. Each year, KAB asks students to illustrate what it means to keep Arkansas beautiful to raise awareness of the upcoming community litter pickups, recycling events and beautification projects.

“We receive entries from all over the state,” said Elizabeth Philpott, KAB volunteer services coordinator. “It is so important to involve our youth in our efforts to keep Arkansas clean, green, and litter free.”

Teachers and youth leaders across the state are encouraged to involve all students in grades K – 5 in this educational art contest. Home-schooled students, 4-H clubs, scouts and other youth organizations are invited to submit entries in the competition.

Posters entered in the contest should depict an Arkansas that is clean and green with flowers and trees planted, parks and public areas cleaned up, trails built, downtowns improved, and litter picked up. The artwork should be two-dimensional and can be in any medium (pen and ink, watercolor, crayon, marker, pencil, etc.). Entries must be submitted on standard 8½” x 11″ paper.

Prizes for the contest will be awarded in two divisions: Grades K – 2 and Grades 3 – 5. Teachers are asked to select one poster per class to be submitted for statewide judging. Winners will be recognized in their local communities by KAB representatives.

Posters must be received no later than Monday, March 30, 2015, and should be mailed or delivered to Elizabeth Philpott, Keep Arkansas Beautiful, One Capitol Mall, Suite 4A-007, Little Rock, AR 72201.
