LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct.13, 2022) — The Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission (KAB), in collaboration with local partner Keep Little Rock Beautiful (KLRB), will be providing recycling at the Arkansas State Fair for its inaugural Earth Day at the State Fair initiative.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, state fair attendees will be provided a recycling option for their trash near the food vendors. Two KAB tents will be set up with volunteers that will aid in properly sorting recyclable items from items that would typically go into the landfill.

“Recycling stations also provide education at events and for some, may be their first introduction to recycling,” said Suzanne Hirrel, Keep Little Rock Beautiful board member and vice chair. “By partnering with the Arkansas State Fair for this opportunity, we will be able to start the sustainability conversation with thousands of Arkansans.”

This will be the first time the organizations will offer this option at the Arkansas State Fair and encourage attendees on that day to find one of the two stations to turn in their recyclables.

“More so than ever Arkansans are seeking ways to participate in environmental stewardship and unfortunately, recycling options are not always available,” said Colbie Jones, executive director of KAB. “As the Arkansas State Fair welcomes attendees from all parts of the state each year, we are excited to provide this option on Thursday, Oct. 20, to participate in recycling and learn what items are recyclable versus those that are not. We hope this effort will inspire others to seek sustainability options for their local events, as well.”

Both organizations are also seeking volunteers to assist at the stations. Volunteers will receive free parking and after volunteering for a two-hour shift, they will enjoy free admission into the Arkansas State Fair that day. Volunteers can sign up for a shift at: https://bit.ly/EarthDayatFair.

Keep Little Rock Beautiful and the Friends of Fouche Creek will also be exhibiting in the Arkansas State Fair’s Hall of Industry throughout the fair. Attendees can learn about the organizations’ local efforts including their upcoming pollinator garden and opportunities to maintain the scenic beauty of Fouche Creek.
