Habitat for Humanity – Rock the Block

Times: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

15 homes are currently scheduled to undergo exterior renovations at Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas’ Rock the Block event. More houses may be scheduled to be weatherized, repaired, landscaped, repainted, or have decking rebuilt. The Salvation Army, Ben E. Keith, Baring Cross Neighborhood Association, State Farm, Summit Church, and many more are scheduled to participate in the clean-up.

Since 1989, Habitat for Humanity has built over 40 homes in Baring Cross neighborhood and has forged a close relationship with the Baring Cross Neighborhood Association. To determine which homes are to be repaired at Rock the Block, Habitat volunteers and staff go door-to-door and speak with homeowners about their needs. Requests range from construction of wheelchair ramps to porch, deck, and handrail repair. Other common needs are landscaping, weatherization, and fresh coats of paint.

Because of the neighborhood clean-up, an area that has been neglected and ignored for years has begun to see tangible measures of God’s love through community care. The volunteer base for Rock the Block is always growing and is a fantastic opportunity for the whole family to work together. Food, the spirit of community, and a bounce house for the kids makes a fun day of exterior repairs, trash pick-up, landscaping and more. To participate, come out to 18th and Division in North Little Rock on Saturday, March 19 at 8:00am, or sign up at habitatcentralar.org/volunteer.
