Keep America Beautiful Affiliates in Arkansas Earn National Honors
LITTLE ROCK (Dec. 11, 2009) - Keep Arkansas Beautiful (KAB) and eight local affiliated organizations in the state have received national recognition from Keep America Beautiful Inc., the nation’s premier community-improvement organization.
KAB earned its fifth consecutive Gold Level State Affiliate designation and won two second-place Rogers Awards. The Gold Level designation is the highest recognition bestowed by the national organization on its state affiliates. Rogers Awards, which recognize creativity in radio and television advertising, were presented to KAB for the original “Shine: Keep Arkansas Clean & Green™” radio and TV spots.
Two Keep America Beautiful local certified affiliates in Arkansas – the Hot Springs/Garland County Beautification Commission and Keep Van Buren Beautiful (Crawford County) – won first-place awards for their respective Cigarette Litter Prevention Programs. Hot Springs/Garland County won the first-place National Cigarette Litter Award in the First-Time Implementation category, while Van Buren won the first-place award in the Expanded Implementation category.
Additionally, the executive directors of these organizations – Adam Roberts of Hot Springs and John Pope of Van Buren – served as expert participants in a panel discussion about the Cigarette Litter Prevention Program.
Hot Springs/Garland County also received a first-place National Innovation Award in the Waste Reduction and Recycling category, as well as special recognition for its use of YouTube to promote the organization and its mission.
And, Keep America Beautiful honored eight local organizations in Arkansas with the President’s Circle Award, the highest recognition given by the national organization to its local affiliates:
• Hot Springs/Garland County Beautification Commission
• Keep Benton County Beautiful
• Keep Faulkner County Beautiful
• Keep Little Rock Beautiful (Pulaski County)
• Keep Newport Beautiful (Jackson County)
• Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Clean & Beautiful
• Keep Sherwood Beautiful (Pulaski County)
• Keep Van Buren Beautiful.
All awards were presented during the 56th annual Keep America Beautiful National Conference in Washington, D.C., last week.
KAB is the Keep America Beautiful certified state affiliate in Arkansas. Nine community-improvement organizations in Benton County, Faulkner County, Hot Springs/Garland County, Jacksonville, Little Rock, Newport, Pine Bluff/Jefferson County, Sherwood and Van Buren are the Keep America Beautiful certified local affiliates in Arkansas.
